REACH regulation regarding the safe use of diisocyanates comes into force
What is the REACH regulation?
The REACH regulation (Registration, Evaluation, Authorization & Restriction of Chemicals) is a regulation of the European Union, adopted to
improve the protection of human health and the environment from the risks that can be posed by chemicals, while enhancing the competitiveness
of the EU chemicals industry. Μore information is accessible
here
.
On August 4
th
, 2020, the new European Regulation 2020/1149 was announced, according to which from the
24
th
of
August 2023
, all professional
applicators and users in the construction and industrial sector will have to complete the relevant training and obtain the corresponding necessary
certification, before using products containing diisocyanates.
What are the diisocyanates?
Diisocyanates are chemical compounds which are used in the production of polyurethane and polyurea products such as elastomeric
waterproofing coatings, floor and wall coatings, sealants, adhesives, etc. When handling these products, users are likely to be exposed to these
compounds, which even in low concentrations may cause health damage. A major concern is the sensitization of the respiratory system which may
lead to asthma. Sensitization is not reversible and may even lead to
lifelong exclusion
from working with diisocyanates and possibly other categories
of chemicals. It is worth noting that after the complete reaction of the diisocyanates during the production process, the final products cannot release
under normal conditions any dangerous substances and are completely safe for the end user.
For more information and in order to participate in the necessary training process, as well as receive the respective certification which will prove
the successful completion of the training, you may visit the link below and select the appropriate section according to your needs:
